Short biography
Guus Dix is Assistant Professor 'Sociology of science and technology' at the section Knowledge, Transformation and Society (KITES, BMS) at the University of Twente. Against the background of the decades-long political failure to address the climate and ecological crisis, he is specially interested in:
1. The rise and development of national and European policies centered on (technological) solutions for social and environmental problems.
2. The role of fossil fuel companies in co-determining the political- and research agenda.
3. The development of mitigation research at the individual, group and institutional level.
4. The development and political uptake of alternative approaches such as behavioral change, degrowth and global justice.
Because of his worries and sense of urgency, Guus is engaged in civil disobedience actions as a climate activist with Extinction Rebellion and Scientist Rebellion. To feed public debate, he publishes more widely on policymaking, fossil ties in academia and climate activism in various newspapers.
